Transfer of Technology

The Ministry of Science and Technology, one of the Ministries of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, provides a framework for the Science & Technology development and growth of the country.

 
Vidatha (Transfer of Technology) Programme
  The Vidatha programme commenced in 2005 and continued in 2006 as well. Its project period is three years from 2005. The programme aims at transferring technology to rural areas via Vidatha Resource Centres, with a view to creating employment opportunities and to alleviate rural poverty. It has been targeted to establish 330 Vidatha resource centres covering all divisional secretariats, for the successful implementation of the Vidatha Programme transfering technologies to the village. The programme has completed the following activities during the period, January to August 2006.  
   
  
Alternative Energy Programme
  The Alternative Energy programme was established in 1995 under the Ministry of Science and Technology. The main function is to conduct research on development of alternative sources suitable for energy generation in Sri Lanka.

Other Development Programmes
  Establishment of Gamma Irradiator; Initial work for the establishment of a gamma irradiator was jointly carried out by the Ministry and the International Atomic Energy Authority.
